Something for everyone at Karkloof Safari Spa

Africa's best kept secret?
This stunning property is situated a mere 20 minute drive
from Pietermaritzburg.
Should you wish to fly in from Johannesburg or Pretoria,
Airlink will get you to Oribi Airport in under an hour.
The drive from the airport is 30 minutes,
and that means that you can be enjoying a Spa treatment
in less than 2 hours of leaving Johannesburg!
Karkloof is also only 100km from Durban ICC.

An African Buffalo always looks at you
as if you owe it money...
This one seems to be asking you to come
and spent some at
"Africa's best kept secret"...
Karkloof Safari Spa.
The property is home to a large, pristine, herd
that can often be found close to the reception building.
A wonderful welcome for first time visitors to Africa.

What better way to while away some time.
Sitting watching the river flow past.
The sound as the water cascades over the rocks both soothes and calms
those who are taking time out from a hectic urban schedule.
Dispense with your mobile phones and the TV.
Allow this form the background soundtrack during your stay.

Sit quietly for long enough and you might be lucky enough
to spot a Hamerkop as it comes to seek a meal in the turbulent waters.
This is one of the many species of water-bird that makes Karkloof their home.
If you listen very carefully, you might even hear
the cry of the African Fish Eagle.
Probably the most iconic of all the African bird calls.

There is a reason why the collective noun for Zebra is a dazzle.
Looking like a mini-Serengeti, the plains at Karkloof Safari Spa
are filled with scenes like this.
Due to the lack of predators
(apart from the occasional migratory leopard)
they have no enemies here.
This makes them less skittish
and they will often form a "roadblock"
while cameras click away.

Spend time in the main lodge building
and you will discover a variety of nooks and crannies
that are home to exquisite décor.
Just when you think you have seen it all,
something else will attract your attention.
Allow yourself to be enthralled and enchanted by what is on display

The bar and lounge area in the main lodge is a great meeting place.
Make new friends or enjoy a quiet moment with that someone special.

Who can resist a library filled with REAL books?
Even if guests do not have the time to read,
perusing the titles on the shelves might give
them ideas for reading material when they return home.
A small wine cellar that can be found here
and guests are invited to choose a bottle for either lunch or dinner.

Being here makes me SOOOO tired!
The Hippo is considered one of Africa's most dangerous animals.
At Hippo Dam on the Karkloof property,
they seem relaxed and almost willing to pose for a camera.
During a game drive, ask your ranger to spend some time with
this pod as they frolic in the water.
Even though they are large, they do like to play...
especially the youngsters.

Looking for a memento to take home?
Then look no further.
The shop in the main lodge building stocks a variety of items
to suit all tastes.
The shop is stocked with items made by the locals as well
as caps, shirts and other items of branded clothing.
Well worth a look.

Some of the prestigious awards that Karkloof Safari Spa
has garnered over the last few years.
Including the "Best Safari Spa in Africa"!
It does not get any better than that.

Because of the "timeless" nature of Karkloof Safari Spa,
meals, spa treatments and extra curricular activities
can be organized to suit the needs of the guests.
Take the time to wander the property,
savouring what nature has to offer.
"Timeless" is a way of life at Karkloof Safari Spa,
and the staff will help accommodate almost any request.

Karkloof Safari Spa reservations manager, Lawrence,
was a guest on the "Travel & Things" radio show.
This is what he had to say...
(His interview starts about 16 minutes into the program)
